NASA's LRO Spacecraft Detects Promising Room Temperature Moon Lava Holes

Credit: NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center/Arizona State University NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance orbiter (LRO) has discovered a crater hole near the Moon’s Sea of Tranquility at room temperature. An LRO onboard thermal imager found that a 328-foot depression about the length and width of a football field had overshadowed an area that maintained a constant, cool temperature of around 63 degrees Fahrenheit. The hope is that future astronauts will be able to use such a hole as a shelter from the extreme temperatures of the lunar surface that can fluctuate between 260 degrees Fahrenheit on lunar days and cold to minus 280 degrees Fahrenheit on lunar nights. First discovered on the Moon in 2009, such holes, subsurface lava tunnels, and caves can also offer protection from cosmic rays, solar radiation, and micrometeorites, NASA said. “Abou

BMW heated seats cost $26 per month with a subscription

You can pay for most things with a subscription today, from streaming music and movies to recipe boxes and beer delivery. And now drivers can take advantage of a paid monthly plan for special features in BMW cars, such as heated front seats for $26 in Australia. It’s part of the German brand’s connected drive package, which starting this week has added a number of new features, including a monthly subscription to have a heated steering wheel and a headlight system that won’t dazzle oncoming traffic. The controversial move means drivers pay an annual or monthly fee for automakers to temporarily remove software that prevents them from using systems already installed in vehicles. BMW’s latest cars have features you might not know about: The German brand produces models with a number of technologies in the background – and you have to pay a one-time fee or monthly subscription to unlock them. Sick of scrolling through streaming services? Here are five new things to watch this month - ABC Everyday

Cancel your plans! There are so many great TV shows and movies this month that you’ll want to be at home for the rest of the time. Here are our top picks for July viewing. Persuasion (Netflix, July 15) Load I have six words for you: Dakota Johnson uses a British accent. Wait, I need more than that: Dakota Johnson does a British accent and occasionally breaks the fourth wall in the Persuasion adaptation (17 words). You can see why stan Jane Austen loves this film. People have debated it hotly before its release. Load But let’s forget all that and talk premise, because it’s still an interesting classic: Anne Elliott (Johnson) must decide between the escapees, Captain Frederick Wentworth (played by Cosmo Jarvis), and Mr William Elliott (Henry Golding!!! !) It gives both desire and confusion, but most importantly it provides DRAMA of various periods, which is always good. If by slim coincidence none of those things speak to you, this is one to watch for the simple fact that it will proba

This month, two rockets were heard to be launched from Australia, carrying out experiments to determine whether the ultraviolet light emitted by stars from the Alpha Centauri system is detrimental to potential life on planets around them. The study will also reveal how typical – or abnormal – the sun is. Alpha Centauri consists of two main stars, Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B (which form a binary pair), as well as a third star, Proxima Centauri, which is only 4.3 light-years away. While no planets have been detected positively orbiting Alpha Centauri A or B, if they do exist, the ultraviolet radiation from their stars may have a significant impact on whether or not they support life. The right amount of ultraviolet light can break down simple organic molecules, such as methane, prompting molecular fragments to reshape the more complex molecules necessary for life. On the other hand, too much ultraviolet could separate out water vapor, make it escape from the planet’s atmosph
