An Oklahoma mother filmed her daughter Jada, 18, signing a legal lease agreement and posted it with the caption ‘when your 18 year old decides to stay home’.

After receiving numerous ‘hate comments’ Jada’s mother took to TikTok to post a response video in which she attempted to explain to her over 24,000 followers why she got her daughter to sign the contract.

“I was a single mother at 16 and my parents didn’t set me up for success, I had to fight for everything I had,” the Oklahoma woman says at the beginning of her video.

She went on to add that she doesn’t want her children to be ‘dependent’ on her for ‘anything’ and everything she does is ‘preparing’ her children for the ‘real world’.

The mother-of-six adds that in the Oklahoma area they are from, tenants must have proof of a ‘tenant history’ when they prepare to rent or buy a home, adding that she makes a valid lease agreement for her daughter to have a tenant history.

And while social media users were quick to advise the mother to let her daughter save $100 for other expenses, the Oklahoma woman said: ‘That’s the only bill [Jada] pay, no car payments, no insurance, no cell phone bills.’
