The Tigers spoke to the AFL about Nankervis' 'harsh' treatment; Satan's star returns; Beveridge didn't bite Jones

“The fact is Toby gives free-kicks and sometimes opponents don’t,” Hardwick told reporters on Wednesday. “The same thing happens from time to time. “We saw players walking across the line every time during the round and there were 50 of them playing, and Toby was pinged for three of them. “We spoke to the refereeing department about that, and hopefully, we got a better result this week. “In the end, they— [the AFL] accept mistakes made, as we do as coaches too. Load “Toby was penalized for a report and a drawn 50 yards penalty … you know, he was treated harshly.” Nankervis faces a major battle against rising Fremantle force Sean Darcy at Marvel Stadium on Friday night in a contest that will help shape both sides’ final prospects. Richmond have lost three of their last four games, with poor goal kicks costing them over the last two weeks in defeats to the Gold Coast and North Melbourne by a combined margin of just six points. “We...

Scientists Have Found A Way To Save Energy And Boil Water More Efficiently

Image
Water boils a lot – whether it’s a cup of tea brewed in the kitchen or a power station that generates electricity. Any increase in the efficiency of this process will have a major impact on the overall amount of energy used for it each day. One such improvement could come with newly developed treatments for surfaces involved in heating and evaporating water. The treatment improves the two main parameters that determine the boiling process: heat transfer coefficient (HTC) and critical heat flux (CHF). Most of the time, there is a trade-off between the two – when one improves, the other worsens. After years of investigation, the research term behind this technique has found a way to improve both. “Both parameters are important, but raising the two parameters together is a bit tricky because they have an intrinsic trade-off,” said bioinformatics scientist Youngsup Song of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California. “If we have a lot of bubbles on the...

Desperate Long Covid Patient Paid Thousands for Unproven Blood Screening Treatment: Report

A new investigative report out Tuesday found that long-standing COVID-19 patients are traveling overseas to try expensive and untested treatments for their symptoms, including screening their blood. But at least some experts are concerned about the trend, warning that this treatment lacks solid evidence to support its claimed benefits. The report is a collaboration between The BMJ and ITV News. The authors visited or interviewed patients who went to clinics in Cyprus, Germany and Switzerland hoping to find relief for lingering post-covid symptoms. These symptoms tend to include, but are not limited to, persistent fatigue, breathing problems, and cognitive dysfunction, or brain fog. The main treatment offered by this clinic is called apheresis. The patient’s blood is drawn, which is then “washed” and broken down into its different components of plasma and red blood cells. The blood is then recombined and finally given back to the patient via a different vein. The ...

Genetic Discovery Could Lead to Early Detection, Treatment for Osteoarthritis

Image
12 July 2022 12:30 Genetic defects that lead to abnormal inflammation in the hands, hips, knees, and other joints may help explain why some people are more prone to developing severe osteoarthritis than others, according to scientists from the University of Utah Health. Photo credit: Getty Images An overactive inflammatory response can trigger the most common form of arthritis A newly detected defect in a genetic signaling pathway that leads to a hyperactive inflammatory response could help explain why some people are more prone to developing severe osteoarthritis than others, according to University of Utah Health scientists. They say the discovery could eventually lead to ways to detect early onset of the disease—even before symptoms appear—and the development of new treatments for the disease. The findings, among the first to suggest that an increased inflammatory response is a major risk factor in osteoarthritis, appear in the Annals of the Rheumatic Disea...

When Shelley was diagnosed with cancer, Delta Goodrem was the first person she contacted

Image
When Shelley Bishop was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma earlier this year, the first person she contacted was her friend Delta Goodrem, who was treated for blood cancer as a teenager. With no history of cancer in her family, Ms Bishop sought the advice of someone with life experience with the disease to calm her fears. “For me, it was the unknown, it was very scary,” Bishop said. Shelley Bishop received words of support from Delta Goodrem. ( Provided: Shelley Bishop ) “I panicked for the first few weeks when I was diagnosed. I panicked. “Delta is basically just saying: ‘This is really scary, but there’s nothing you can’t afford. You just have to take one small step every day to get stronger and listen to your body. Take your time and rest when you need to. Don’t try and push yourself too hard.’ “He literally based the whole experience on me. I have no doubt that he was put in my path for a reason.” Bishop and the...
