Birmingham showed off its prowess at the spectacular Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games

As unlikely as it sounds, a giant, mechanical, patchwork bull made of scrap metal has provided the emotional core of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony. The “Raging bull” roared into Alexander Stadium midway through the show, pulled in by the underpaid and overworked female chain makers of the industrial revolution. He’s taken to a recreation of the Bullring—a landmark in the city that used to be a market, and is now a meeting place and shopping mall. It is made from parts sourced from local factories, referring to Birmingham’s reputation as a “city of 1,000 trades”, but the way it moves and is emotional touches the heart, as its journey mirrors that of the city. Lorell Boyce’s character, Stella, forms a friendship with a bull. This Is It: The Strokes main Splendor set is anything but sloppy - triple j

If you believe recent overseas reports, it appears that it was the bumpy road The Strokes have taken to Splendor In The Grass that hit the spotlight on Saturday night. Earlier this month, it was hard to ignore the headlines about frontman Julian Casablancas. “worrying” “behavior and” “an insult to the crowd” at international festivals. Some even speculated if they wanted “witnessed the end of The Strokes” in TRNSMT Scotland. This sparked concerns over whether The Strokes – which have claimed to be on the verge of exploding for years – would even make it Down Under. Or maybe indulge the Splendor crowd with some weird banter, a loose cover, or something more spicy. This kind of drama is often an ingredient in era-defining band stories. But as is often the case, the rumors of their deaths were exaggerated. The Strokes are here, and in short, they sound really great. From the jump, the instantly recognizable five-part sound was as crisp as ever, showing no signs of touring wear. They

'Threatening' Asteroid on Collision Path With Earth Just Lowered

It’s nice to know that someone actually gets paid to watch the night sky to make sure that at least we’ll be notified if an asteroid is about to hit Earth. Technology and near-Earth surveys have advanced enough that the possibility of an asteroid the size of a planet-killer appearing out of nowhere, as is so prevalent in modern media depictions, is highly unlikely. Even the smaller ones, which would only annihilate a city or part of a continent, received enough attention to know whether they posed a threat or not. And ahead of Asteroid Day 2022, which happens on June 30, the ESA is proud to announce that they can remove one of the most threatening asteroids from their list of potential impacts. The asteroid, known as 2021 QM1, was first detected at the Mount Lemmon observatory on August 28, 2021. It was only one of about a dozen near-Earth asteroids discovered that night and did not initially raise any alarm. But follow-up observations put it on a potentially near-miss path with Earth
