'A voice for generations': The impact of Archie Roach, told by those who know and love him

Image
From the top of Arnhem Land, where musicians draw inspiration from his timeless words, to the streets of Melbourne’s Fitzroy, where fans leave floral tributes on the steps of Charcoal Lane, it seems like nowhere in the country hasn’t been touched by Archie Roach. His sons, Amos and Eban, said Archie died surrounded by his family and loved ones at Warrnambool Base Hospital in Victoria. Archie’s family has given permission to use his name, image and music. But the love Archie feels goes far beyond that hospital ward, far beyond state lines and color lines to every corner of the land we call Australia. Archie left a legacy of tireless work towards reconciliation and a new generation inspired to carry his message of healing into the future. As Australia comes to terms with the loss of one of its greatest storytellers, those touched by Archie open up about what it means to them. Tributes were paid outside Melbourne’s Charcoal Lane Aboriginal social enterprise, which bears the same name as

The perfect mix: why I always love Neighbors

Network Ten Charlene Mitchell, Henry Ramsay and Madge and Harold Bishop – characters from the long-running Australian soap opera Neighbors. OPINION : I’ll admit something most of my closest friends don’t know: I’m a huge Neighbors fan. Since 1987, I have spent about 84 days of my life engrossed in the lives of the citizens of Ramsay St. Forget politics, Erinsborough is my Mastermind subject specialist. I know which Spice Girls made the cameo (Baby), the name of the real-life stalemate where exterior filming took place (Pin Oak Court) and who went sailing and never came back (Marlene). Everyone remembers Bouncer’s dream, but do you know the name of Lucy Robinson’s dog, which she replaced? (Basil, he drowns – one of Guy Pearce’s best performances). READ MORE: * Last Neighbor episode aired in September * Neighbors: Ramsay Street Road to fame * Timestamps when the British slam the door on the Neighbors * Looking back at the 1980s Neighbors script, how much has it really cha

Charlie Aitken sells his investment fund after high society love triangle

Charlie Aitken sold his self-titled fund management company just months after a highly public high society love triangle. The Sydney investment banker became embroiled in a scandal in late 2021 after sleeping with Hollie Nasser, his wife Ellie’s best friend, shortly after his marriage broke down. The swap of partners took the city’s eastern suburbs by surprise and was further complicated by the fact that Aitken did business with Nasser’s investor husband Christopher. Now, Mr. Aitken has advised Aitken Investment Management investors of his intention to resign. In a note to clients, Mr Aitken said the investment team had agreed to buy his family’s stake, at which point he would step down and the company would change its name to Constantia Investment Partners. Charlie Aitken (pictured with his wife Ellie) leaves his own investment fund “The investment team is humbled to take the baton from Charlie to lead the company, and to continue to manage the capital that investors have entr

Rendezvous causes ripples as swimming stars lick love

And she sure looks happy. Just like the sponsors who have invested millions of dollars in the two athletes; with broadcasters, women’s magazines and mainstream media off the sports page, it all piles up. Simpson has even launched his own fashion line. The more news about the McKeon-Simpson relationship (which certainly deserves a portmanteau celeb? Codem? Maybe Emody?), the greater the return on sponsor investment, and at a time when competition for corporate endorsements is fierce. After his victory at the Tokyo Olympics, manager McKeon Tony Box revealing sponsorship has changed dramatically since the times Ian Thorpe shaken in the millions, telling PS last year: “There’s more competition and sports and athletes who don’t provide regular content have suffered.” “Content” is one thing that “Emody” will not lack, especially if Simpson’s social media posts are any indication, as is being filmed – allegedly clandestinely – checking his phone to find out he has teamed up Australia for
