Carl Hayman: Huge pressure on Ian Foster, results got him in trouble

Hagen Hopkins/Getty Images All Blacks coach Ian Foster has come under pressure after a series of poor test results. Former All Blacks prop Carl Hayman believes there is “huge pressure” on coach Ian Foster in South Africa although feels replacing him with Scott Robertson is “subtle”. The All Blacks faced the Springboks twice over the next two weekends following a historic draw lost to Ireland in New Zealand. The All Blacks’ decline continues to make headlines around the world, especially in France which is hosting next year’s World Cup and where Hayman remains a revered figure after his glorious days with Toulon. “There is huge pressure on Foster and the result puts him in trouble,” Hayman, who played 45 tests for New Zealand told French newspaper Midi Olympique. Chinese property, banking pain has iron ore in bear pressure

Rio appears to be doing a pretty good job of controlling those costs, and there are new opportunities in terms of improving operational efficiency, including the first ore from the vital new Gudai-Darri mine. But it’s hard to shake off concerns that Australia’s big iron ore miners are facing worrying pressure, with falling demand and rising costs conspiring to stifle profitability. That’s important for investors – Rio’s shares fell 2.6 percent on Friday, picking up losses since their recent peak last month to 21 percent, while BHP fell 24 percent over the same period – but also for Australia’s state and federal governments, for which royalties and strong iron ore taxes have been a boon over the last few years. The supply side is not an issue here, given that large iron ore miners have strong cost discipline and keep volumes under control. But the demand picture is deteriorating as China’s economy continues to suffer. China’s economy is treading...

Channel 10 boss Beverley McGarvey under pressure to quit

Channel 10 boss Beverley McGarvey is under increasing pressure to quit as disgruntled staff bemoaned dismal ratings and a PR disaster. The network is a distant third in the rankings behind Nine and Seven and its previous marquee shows like The Bachelor and The Project being on life support. The new programs didn’t go any better and his attempt at breakfast a la Sunrise drew just 44 viewers in Sydney for his second run. But staff say McGarvey’s approach – despite a failed roller-coaster and some heavy internal conflict – has doubled down instead of showing humility. Beverley McGarvey has overseen some fortunes at Ten and is now executive vice president for ViacomCBS Australia Longtime employees feared the situation might be terminal, and unfavorably compared his tenure with his predecessor David Mott. They remember that fateful day in 2012 when then-programming boss Mott told his squad he was stepping down after nearly 16 years. Despite having overseen the d...

Heart-healthy and lower sodium version of traditional Chinese cuisine lowers blood pressure

DALLAS, July 11, 2022 — Blood pressure levels fell significantly among Chinese adults with high blood pressure who ate heart-healthy, low-sodium traditional Chinese cuisine for four weeks, according to new research published today in the main journal of the American Heart Association. Circulation . A key feature of the Chinese heart-healthy diet, modeled along the lines of the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH), is sodium reduction. An unhealthy diet, especially one high in sodium, is a major modifiable risk factor for high blood pressure. “Compared to the nutritional composition of the typical Chinese diet in urban China, our heart-healthy diet of traditional Chinese cuisine cuts sodium in half, from 6,000 mg daily to 3,000 mg daily, reducing fat intake and doubling dietary fiber. It also increases protein, carbohydrates, and potassium,” said first author and co-chair of the study team Yanfang Wang, Ph.D., a nutritionist and research professor at Peking University Clinic...
