Inspiring burn victim Turia Pitt recalls the horrific moments she nearly killed herself during the early stages of her recovery. In 2011, the 34-year-old mining engineer survived the odds after getting caught in a bushfire while competing in an ultramarathon in Western Australia, but suffered horrific burns on 64 per cent of his body. Opening up about the aftermath of the tragedy 11 years later, the mother-of-two said she ‘wanted to die’ during the early stages of her hospitalization. Speaking to Jess Rowe on her podcast The Big Talk Show, Turia explained that she and her father were “very logical and practical” by nature, and she told him she wanted to die because “she would know where she came from”. ‘I said, ‘I want to kill myself, I don’t want to be here” he recalls. ‘And my dad said, ‘well the doctors say you’ll be back on your feet in five years.
