There are so many great TV shows and movies this month that you’ll want to be at home for the rest of the time.

Here are our top picks for July viewing.

Persuasion (Netflix, July 15)

I have six words for you: Dakota Johnson uses a British accent. Wait, I need more than that: Dakota Johnson does a British accent and occasionally breaks the fourth wall in the Persuasion adaptation (17 words).

You can see why stan Jane Austen loves this film. People have debated it hotly before its release.

But let’s forget all that and talk premise, because it’s still an interesting classic: Anne Elliott (Johnson) must decide between the escapees, Captain Frederick Wentworth (played by Cosmo Jarvis), and Mr William Elliott (Henry Golding!!! !)

It gives both desire and confusion, but most importantly it provides DRAMA of various periods, which is always good.

If by slim coincidence none of those things speak to you, this is one to watch for the simple fact that it will probably be the most talked about film of the month by the time it finally comes out.

For fans: Anything Jane Austen and/or Dakota Johnson but also Bridget Jones’s Diary, Clueless, Little Women, Bridgerton.

Anything is Possible (Amazon Prime, July 22)

If you’ve had a Heartstopper-sized hole in your heart since you wrapped up the series in May, Billy Porter’s new romance will fill it for you.

Anything Might is a hilarious and super fun story about Kelsa, a trans high school student, and her classmate Khal, a cis boy who crushes her hard before he finally musters up the courage to ask her out.

For fans: Heartstopper, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, Love, Simon, But I’m a Cheerleader, Pose, It’s a Sin.

Nude Tuesday (Stan, come out now)

Bruno and Laura haven’t had much sex lately. In an attempt to rekindle the romance in their marriage, they travel to a secluded new age retreat to hear the words of wisdom from a sex guru named Bjorg and partake in an orgy, because of course.

That’s the plot of Nude Tuesday, but it’s not the wildest part of the film: Kiwi comedy is delivered entirely in improvised nonsense. Different versions of the English subtitles have then been written and added in posts by different comedians, adding an extra layer of pick-your-own-adventure silliness.

Get ready for it lol.

Meet the Penguins (ABC iview, out now)

You can’t go wrong with doco nature. And what could be better than a nature doco that delights in observing the world’s smallest penguin, which lives along Australia’s southern coastline?

That’s right, this ABC special follows nature host Dr Ann Jones as she studies the 32,000 fairy penguins that live on Phillip Island and in St Kilda as they try to build a home, find a mate, and raise their children while facing the dangers at sea during their lifetime. mating season.

The Gray Man (Netflix, July 22)

Ryan Gosling is: The Gray Man, a reckless CIA agent who accidentally uncovers some of the dark agency’s secrets, placing a target on his head in the process.

This may sound vague, but it’s not really the plot that matters here. It’s the action, spy drama, stealth, suspenseful soundtrack and Ryan fix we’ve all been craving since those Barbie set photos leaked.

The Gray Man is also not only proud of Ryan. One of Kris (even if not you Chris) — costars as his bent former comrade sent to kill him. And Rege Jean Page (of Bridgerton fame) is in it too!
