Viewers react when the Today show has an embarrassing wardrobe error

Viewers react after Channel Nine’s Today suffered an embarrassing dress mistake – and Amber Sherlock responds years after #jacketgate saga

It’s #jacketgate again!

Viewers who watched Channel Nine’s Today show on Monday morning were quite surprised when four women were spotted in an almost identical blue ensemble.

Today’s presenters Allison Langdon, reporters Lara Vella and Fiona Willan, plus senator Jacqui Lambie all appeared dressed in blue during separate segments of the breakfast show.

A photo of the four was later shared via the event’s Instagram account with the caption, ‘Da ba dee da ba di,’ a reference to Eiffel 65’s iconic song ‘Blue (Da Ba Dee)’.

‘Oh yes … go brethren! What color should we rock tomorrow??’ Allison joked in the comments.

Fans quickly saw the familiarity with Nine’s presenter Amber Sherlock’s ‘Jaketgate’ glitch more than five years ago.

In January 2017, footage emerged of a newsreader berating former Nine reporter Julie Snook for wearing a white jacket.

Amber had asked Julie ‘two hours ago’ to change as the panel of three women all appeared in white.

‘Amber Sherlock wouldn’t like you all the same color,’ wrote one viewer in the comments to the Instagram Today post.

In response, Amber brushed off the story, jokingly writing: ‘I actually really like the color blue.. I only have ownership of white.’

‘Amber Sherlock must be fit,’ added another user. To which he replied, ‘Well, it’s not white.. but..’

The footage went viral after an editor sent the clip – shot during a commercial break – into the newsroom, before a broadcast talent reportedly leaked it online via Mumbrella.

“The editors who originally sent the clip to the newsroom went down easily because they didn’t intend to spread it,” an insider told the newspaper at the time.

On the tape, Amber says to her producers: ‘I need Julie to wear a jacket because we all dress in white. I asked her before we came… Julie you should wear a jacket.’

Leaked footage shows Amber (center) demanding Julie (left) put on a jacket so the two can avoid both wearing white on TV at the same time.

Julie fought back and said she didn’t have time to change but Amber refused to back down, snapping: ‘Come on, I told you two hours ago.’

Amber later addressed the controversy, blaming the devastation on the pressure of live TV.

‘I was really embarrassed, and, of course, hurt. I thought I was a kind and generous person,” he told the Daily Telegraph at the time.

‘I am a mother, I have a family. And I’m broken. I’m only human in the end, and I think people forget that.’

For Julie, she says the experience is a ‘learning curve’.

“It showed me the good and the bad of people and showed how much we can really come together. I have a lot of support here at Nine,” he told 9Honey in May 2017.
