'Bring your boots': Splendor in the Grass ticket holders told to 'really' show up for day two

Splendor in the Grass ticket holders are urged to attend today after the first day of the music festival was canceled due to wet and muddy conditions.

Hundreds of people who arrived on the first day of the three-day event on Friday found themselves stuck in a queue of cars for up to eight hours to get in, only to be met by a flooded campground.

Organizers made calls to cancel the main stage act in the afternoon, as heavy rain was expected.

Held in North Byron Parklands in the New South Wales region of Northern Rivers, festival co-founder Jessica Ducrou said it was the “worst weather” the festival has experienced in its 21-year history.

“We’ve had muddy events before, it’s nothing new to us but I think the amount of rain the North River has received over the last six months makes it very difficult,” he said.

Despite Friday’s loss, Ducrou believes Saturday’s queue will continue and said those with tickets should “really” show up.

“Everyone is working as hard as they can to make this the experience they deserve, but these are very challenging conditions.”

This is the first time the festival has taken place since the start of the pandemic in 2019 and nothing will stop some artists from performing at the last minute at venues around Byron Bay last night.

After a turbulent few days for ticket holders, there was mixed reaction to statements from Splendor in the Grass on social media.

Several ticket holders who were denied entry to the festival yesterday expressed disappointment at the lack of communication from the event organisers.

Others expressed concern about what a one-day cancellation would mean for festival operators and the music industry.
