Will Smith's pal gives update on actor now shutting down after 'Oscar Slap'

Will Smith is “in a better place” after disappearing from public view after the infamous “Oscar slap”, according to friend and fellow actor Kevin Hart.

On March 28, Smith made global headlines when he took the stage at the 94th Academy Awards and slapped Chris Rock in the face.

Rock has compared Will’s wife, Jade Pinkett Smith, to Demi Moore in the film GI Jane Because of her shaved head, apparently the actress did not realize that the actress was suffering from alopecia hair loss condition.

After hitting Rock, Smith walked back to his seat and shouted twice: “Keep my wife’s name out of your mouth!”

He later made a tearful acceptance speech as the Best Actor winner for King Richard, apologizing to the Academy – but not to Rock.

The counterattack was massive and direct.

Smith resigned from the Academy, was barred from attending Academy Awards ceremonies for the next decade, offered a public apology via social media – and then disappeared.

Now his best friend, fellow actor Kevin Hart, has offered an update on how King Richard and The man in the black shirt stars do, four months of controversy.

“Will apologizes, you know, he’s in a better space, of course, than what he’s after,” Hart said. Tonight’s Entertainment on Wednesday at the premiere of his new animated film in LA DC Super-Animal League.

“Humans are humans, and as humans we sometimes make mistakes.

“So it’s not about talking about the past, it’s about acknowledging the present and doing your best to move forward.”

Hart added that he hoped Smith and Rock would be able to “get past” the incident.

“I just hope they both find a way to find solace and get through it,” he said.

“In the end, life goes on and people grow, so give him a chance to do it.”

Jada Pinkett Smith opens up about the incident in an episode Red Table Chat last month, said he hoped the two would reconcile.

“Now about Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent and capable men have a chance to heal, talk about this and make peace,” he said.

“The current state of the world, we need both. And we all actually need each other more than ever.

“Until then, Will and I continue to do what we’ve been doing for the past 28 years, and let’s keep thinking about this thing called living together.”

Smith hasn’t updated his Instagram profile since March 28, the day after “slapgate.”

“Violence in all its forms is toxic and destructive,” he wrote.

“My behavior is unacceptable and unforgivable.”

He then proceeds to apologize to Rock for the first time.

“I want to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong,” he wrote.

“I was embarrassed and my actions didn’t represent the man I wanted to be.

“There is no place for violence in the world of love and kindness.”
