An heir to the throne of the Rebel bikie gang has been patched to become a Comanchero in a move that has sent shockwaves through the underworld.

Jesse Vella, nephew of former national president Alex Vella and cousin of current president Damien, was welcomed into a rival gang by new president Allan Meehan on Thursday.

‘Welcome to A-grade,’ said Meehan, posting a photo of the couple wearing club colours, posing in front of a motorbike and a Comanchero badge.

‘This (is) that new bullshit.’

The move made him the first member of the Vella family to ever leave the Rebels for another club.

It came just months after Jesse parted ways with his father Gino at his funeral in January, where Jesse read a poem.

Meehan, who was only announced as the new leader of the Comanchero last month, is said to have approached Jesse – and his hunt is seen as a power move.

Meehan takes over from Melbourne-based former boss Mick Murray. Murray was arrested in April for the 2019 gang murder of Mitat Rasimi, an associate of notorious drug lord Tony Mokbel.

He was charged with one count of murder and is being held behind bars.

An underworld source said the Vella News Corp recruitment showed Comanchero was able to do ‘what they want, when they want’.

Meehan grew up in public housing southwest of Sydney and has spent half his life riding through the ranks of biker gangs.

He joined the Rebels when he was 18 and later became president of the Cronulla chapter before he defected to the Comancheros.

Sources claim he was persuaded to switch allegiances by a mentor, Comanchero ‘world commander’ Mark Buddle.

Meehan is highly ‘respected’ among the gang’s old guards and new recruits, reports the Herald Sun.

“He spent his entire adult life in motorcycle gangs,” one source told the publication.

‘He doesn’t know another life.’

He was promoted to commander of the Canberra branch early last year after the assassination of former president Pitasoni Ulavalu and became commander of Sydney six months later.

It is understood Meehan has informed members that he will be keeping an eye on Comancheros from Sydney but is expected to regularly travel to Melbourne.

It has been a tumultuous few months for Australia’s most powerful bikie club still recovering from the recent underworld shooting that left national sergeant Tarek Zahed with serious injuries and claimed the life of his brother Omar.

Dozens of other members were also arrested in AFP raids as part of Operation Ironside, one of the largest and most significant crackdowns on organized crime in Australian history.

One source recently said Meehan is considered ‘quite full’ but has a level head to control some of the more volatile elements of the gang.

Police have been working hard to limit his powers as the new boss after officers visited his home in Yerrinbool, in the Southern Highlands of NSW, recently.

Meehan, who was wearing a smoking jacket, was given a notice informing him that they intended to go to the Supreme Court and issue a serious crime prevention order against him.

He is expected to face trial on the matter today.
