Very unhelpful guide to Chapter Nineteen

The only guide for the round that admits it’s not at all helpful. What it lacks in insight, it makes up for with wild theories and detours to unrelated topics.

This guide doesn’t help you for Round Nineteen.

Friday

Richmond vs. Fremantle (Marvel) 19:50 Fox/Seven

This is another edition of ‘How Can Richmond Manufacture Another Loss,’ which has quickly become one of my favorite reboot TV shows.

I’m really excited to see how they did this week. Maybe blow the big lead again? Or a bad goal kick? Maybe they’ve got something new, like everyone getting hurt running past the banners?

Anticipation is killing me.

The Dockers got a bit of good news this week, with the idea that a Grand Final parade could be held at Yarra by boat. This nautical theme will suit Dockers, especially with boarding and disembarking.

What I’d like to see, if they reach the Grand Finals, is whether the Dockers honor their legacy by going on strike and holding the march.

It’s being held at Richmond’s home ground, Marvel Stadium, which makes sense in the AFL’s scheduling department.

I tipped the Dockers.

Saturday

North Melbourne vs. Hawthorn (Blundstone) 13:45 Fox Footy

Leigh Adams has never lost a game as head coach of North Melbourne, and even though he’s only coached one game, that’s still a great statistic.

A win here and they will be statues of him on Arden Street before next week comes out.

Could it happen? Theoretically, it’s possible. Hawthorn haven’t been a model of consistency this year, and now that the Kangaroos have achieved their season goal of having David Noble fired, they can set their sights on new horizons.

But they’re still North Melbourne, and they’ve regularly changed their VFL mid-level form this season.

Hawthorn may be used to Tasmania, but they have never had a regular season game at the Bellerive Oval.

This is a challenge for any team, because at times, a light breeze can arise and it can get a little chilly.

Once out there, my beer froze into solid blocks the moment I drank it, and anyone who knows me knows that means freezing in under two minutes.

You wouldn’t know it, but an iced beer isn’t as fun as you think.

I tipped Hawthorn.

Sydney vs. Adelaide (SCG) 1:45 PM Fox Footy

Chad Warner’s revival has skyrocketed this year, so much so that he’s been anointed “favorite son” John Longmire.

That must be good. I was anointed as my father’s ‘most disliked son’ and considering I was the only son, I felt that was an unnecessary title to be given.

To be honest, he’s not a cruel man, it reflects more of my personality.

This week, Malcolm Blight said if North Melbourne was awarded the priority choice, the Crows deserved it too.

I strongly agree. In fact, I believe every team should get a priority choice. We must rank the order of priority taking based on where the team completes the ladder.

It would be better to get a bonus for underperforming at work. I would be rich if this was how it worked outside of football.

I might be able to buy some houses if this is the case.

I tipped to Sydney.

Port Adelaide vs. Geelong (AO) 16:35 Fox Footy

The Power are still in the race for eighth place, which no one seems to want this year.

Above them are Richmond, Bulldogs and St Kilda. Richmond and St Kilda have been self-sabotaging lately so I feel like they can come to my support group.

The Bulldogs looked in better form last week, but they are playing St Kilda, so it could be a bit of a false dawn.

This should all give Strength hope, but getting Dees followed by Geelong is just as helpful as Dermott Bretton rushing in to back your position on something.

The Cats have won eight in a row and are the best team in the competition.

There is one question that Geelong fans have, how will this all hold up in September?

They’ve seen this film before, and it hasn’t ended well in recent years. It seems though the Cat is in better shape.

Plus, this season is everywhere. Whenever the team moves to Major League favoritism, they seem to come out of it quicker than Jack Ginnivan in the tackle.

I tipped Geelong.

Brisbane vs. Gold Coast (G) 19:10 Fox Footy

QClash used to be as exciting as listening to Scott Morrison deliver a sermon.

While we may never know what the ‘Q’ means in QClash, a mystery lost to time, today I’m not afraid to watch it, considering the Lions are one of the top teams and the Suns are doing well. .

The Gold Coast need this one, given last week’s poor effort against Essendon that put them at the top of their predicament this season.

Even all the teams above them falling like drunken people trying to climb the fence to get into the beer garden might not see them reach the top eight.

Nine players have been dropped between the two sides, with the Lions regaining Marcus Adams, Dayne Zorko, Daniel Rich, Jarrod Berry and Oscar McInerney.

They are some useful players.

I tip the Lions.

Western Bulldogs vs. Melbourne (Marvel) 19:25 Fox/Seven

Luke Beveridge came out swinging against AFL warnings this week that players would not be rewarded for ducking into tackles.

In fairness to the AFL, which is something I hate to do, the AFL can’t be criticized for not doing enough about concussions, then also being criticized when they do something about it.

These are the rules to protect players for the long term, and certain players then exploit those rules, not to mention setting a bad example for the junior footy ranks.

Plus, the AFL can’t wait until next year to act, players can’t wait until next season to exploit the rules.

Where I would criticize the AFL is that they are often inconsistent over the long term about this. Staging is an example. There was a flash, then they seemed to forget about it.

Around concussion, it’s not an option.

I tipped Dees.

Sunday

Carlton vs. Greater Western Sydney (Marvel) 13:10 Fox Footy

The news that the boat will be used at Yarra for the Grand Final parade brings back fond memories of when the Carlton hovercraft sank in the same river.

Lately, it looks like the Blues won’t have to worry about a nautical adventure in September.

They have become models of inconsistency, winning one week, losing the next. For Blues fans, this is still much better than losing one week, losing more the next week, and being crushed the week after.

The giants have no such water-based worries, sitting fifteenth on the ladder and with one eye on who will train them next year.

There are so many choices, such as Alastair Clarkson and Alastair Clarkson.

The big problem with Giants is that I haven’t read a single article that says they have the ‘battle chest’ you need to land the big fish.

I tipped the Blues.

Collingwood vs. Essendon (MCG) 15:20 Fox/Seven

The Pies filling the stairs have been relentless and depressing. When I meet the Collingwood fans, they are happy, full of hope for the future. You just hate to see it.

Essendon have certainly lifted in recent weeks, making this not an easy win like it was at the start of the year.

The Bomber has won three in a row and has defeated the Goose and the Lion.

Brisbane does have a lot of outs but is still in impressive form.

And while I would love to see Collingwood’s winning streak end, the idea of wanting Essendon to win is not something I want to contemplate.

The bomber would do well to try and stop Nick Daicos, who had been running around like no one else was on the field.

He makes the game look like practice.

Coaches say they will not flag players for interfering with their system, even though that system usually results in losses.

But the key to footy is to have a system, not a win.

Pie to win.

West Coast vs. St Kilda (OS) 4:40pm Fox Footy

Brett Ratten said many of his senior players were in their “last chance”, what he didn’t mention was how many chances came before that last chance.

The good news for those senior players is that in the footy, you get the last 30 or 40 chances.

Saints Season has the faintest pulse but fades quickly. They ran from eight faster than the contestants Hunted.

A win against the Eagles suddenly became important, and this St Kilda no guarantee it would go well.

If they can’t beat the West Coast, making the final might be a blessing.

Especially when you consider the Eagles without Dom Sheed, Jeremy McGovern, Tom Joyce, Oscar Allen, Luke Edwards, Campbell Chesser, Tom Cole, Nic Naitanui and Elliot Yeo.

Apart from those players, they were in full force.

I tip the Saints.
