Trailer The Block: Tree Change: Scott Cam blows up Elle and Joel who quit smoking

Channel Nine has released a dramatic new trailer for the 2022 season of The Block.

The eighteenth season, titled The Block: Tree Change, sees five city-loving couples arriving in a limousine to Gisborne South in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges.

Drama quickly ensued as furious host Scott Cam questioned why either team would ‘do runners after two days’.

The start of the trailer sees longtime host Scott, 59, arrive in a blue plaid shirt and announce to the camera: ‘Australia, welcome to Block country!’

A limousine then drops off five couples, as Scott reveals the new season will see not only five stunning properties come to life but also tennis courts and a winery.

Neale Whitaker cuts a dapper figure in a tailored suit as he plays tennis, while fellow returning judge Shaynna Blaze makes a superb arrival on horseback.

Interior design expert Darren Palmer made his presence felt by going shirtless to show off his buff frame.

The pair are introduced as Tom and Sarah-Jane, Joel and Elle, Ankur and Sharon, Dylan and Jenny, and Omar and Oz, before Scott drops the big bomb.

‘One pair dropped their gear and did a runner. Why did you leave after two days?’ he angrily asks producer.

While those who quit smoking are not named in the trailer, they are widely recognized as fashion influencer Elle Ferguson and her fiancé Joel Patfull.

Elle, 36, and Joel, 37, dropped the contraption in April – just 48 hours into production – after her mother suffered a severe fall at her Adelaide home.

Scott released during an interview with TV Tonight on the Logies red carpet last month: ‘We had a 48 hour challenge to pick the houses you got and they disappeared after 48 hours.

‘This is something that has never happened before.

The pair are introduced as Tom and Sarah-Jane, Joel and Elle, Ankur and Sharon, Dylan and Jenny, and Omar and Oz, before Scott drops the big bomb.

‘Forty-five thousand people signed up to join The Block and win life-changing money. These guys are up and they can’t handle the speed after 48 hours.

‘Which to me is a bit unAustralian! Try! This is so bad.’

Season 18 of The Block will see Scott for the first time build his own home to inspire a couple, and to create a space for them to come together.

‘One pair dropped their gear and did a runner. Why did you leave after two days?’ An angry Scott asked the producers. While the couple who suddenly left are not specifically mentioned in the trailer, it is known as fashion influencer Elle Ferguson and her fiancé Joel Patfull.

“When I got on set for the first time I thought we’d done a lot of big Blocks in the past but nothing quite like this – it’s huge,” Scott said in a statement.

‘We’re building our own little town, and sometimes it’s scary. But we have a lot of great contestants who provide a red-hot gap.’

In addition to judges Shaynna Blaze, Neale Whitaker and Darren Palmer, foreman duo Keith Schleiger and Dan Reilly will also return.

At stake is $100,000 for the winner of The Block, plus any profits the couple’s house may make on auction day.

The Block: Tree Change will premiere soon on Channel Nine and 9Now.

Scott said at the Logie Awards on June 19 that the couple’s decision to leave the show due to a family emergency was ‘unAustralian’ and ‘p**s poor’
