The most popular gender-neutral baby names revealed
Naming a baby is one of the most important decisions a parent can make. But while many may seek inspiration by browsing traditional lists of boy and girl names, a growing number are adopting gender-neutral monikers.
According to research by Nameberry and the New York Times, there was an 88 percent increase in the use of unisex names between 1985 and 2015.
Now, US-based baby naming site Nameberry has revealed the most popular gender-neutral moniker among new parents with Logan topping the list.
While Charlie has long been a popular choice for both boys and girls, some names on lists like Ryan are traditionally considered male names.

Meanwhile, nature-inspired names are also on the rise, with River, Rowan and Eden making the top twenty.
The research comes after the UK’s most popular baby names for 2022 were revealed – with Lily dropping Olivia from the top spot for girls for the first time in seven years.
It comes after BabyCentre released its list of the top 100 names for baby boys and girls in the UK for 2022 so far.
Although the top girls’ names have shifted, the strong favorites for boys’ names have remained fairly stable, with Muhammad clinging to number one.
While some trends remain strong, such as members of the royal family inspiring parents, other high-profile events also seem to influence parenting decisions.
One event that made parents wince was the libel trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp following their bitter divorce in 2016.
Depp successfully sued his ex-wife Heard for libel after she wrote an article in The Washington Post about surviving domestic violence.
He was ordered to pay Depp £8.43 million ($10.35 million) in damages after he was found to have defamed him.
And it seems that the trial, which was broadcast across television, has removed the parents-to-be from Johnny and Amber’s names.
After years of wandering the top 100 names for girls, Amber has dropped off the list for the first time.
BabyCentre also did not record any cases of parents registering their baby boy named Johnny so far this year.
Specifically for boys’ names, there was a slight change in the top spot, with Muhammad and Noah staying in first and second place.
But Oliver, who has been in third place solidly for several years, dropped from the list while Jack jumped to replace him.
Freddie and Harry also dropped from the top 10 while Ethan and Oscar moved up the rankings to eighth and ninth respectively.
For the first time since 2015 a new name took over the top spot for girls’ names, with the previous number one Olivia dropping to third.
Lily claimed the top spot instead, followed by Sophia in second.
Sarah Redshaw, managing editor for BabyCentre, explains why she thinks a new trend is emerging.
In addition to the trials of Amber Heard and Johnny Depp, Redshaw explains parents are also delaying names like Coleen, Rebekah and Wayne because of the infamous Wagatha Christie trial.
One trend that seems to persist is for parents to take inspiration from members of the royal family.
George remains a strong favorite in the top 10 while Louie – a funny game about Louis, stays in the top 30.
In the year of Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, it seems like a lot of parents were inspired, with Elizabeth’s name rising two places in the top 100.
And it is thought that the rising popularity of the name Lily will go down to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle naming their daughter Lilibet in 2021.
Princess Charlotte seems to have given parents a lot of thought as her name has gone up four places to number 30 this year – while her diminutive form Lottie has also climbed the rankings to 52.
Some classic ’70s names seem to be dying altogether including Kelly, Gail, Brenda and Susie for ladies – while Keith, Leslie, Glenn and Terry have been shunned by parents as well.
As the popular Netflix show Stranger Things returns for its fourth series, names inspired by the cult program are also growing in popularity.
Robin, Maxine, Elle, Mike, Billy and Steve (all the names of the main characters in the program) saw an increase in popularity.
