The Loop: COVID reinfection, 'exploding' California wildfires and a hefty price tag on Muhammad Ali's belt

Hi, this Monday, July 25. Here’s what you need to get started today.

One thing to know now

It has been revealed that prosecutors have dropped a child abuse case against a former school principal a Brisbane private boys school — who abused a child years later. It’s more than ABC Rory Callinan:

One thing you’ll hear more about: COVID reinfection

If not you, then you probably know someone who is facing their third (or so) bout with the virus. So what do we know about it?

  • When Omicron appears to cause more reinfection than other variants, there is not enough substantial data to make conclusions about re-infection severity
  • Countries hardest hit by COVID-19, such as New South Wales and victorian, have rough numbers detailing reinfection in the tens of thousands
  • But countries include Queensland not tracking reinfection at all
  • Lyndall Heather, a nurse from Darwin, has long-standing COVID-19 symptoms and has contracted the virus three times in two years. He said there was “a very real chance that I could get it again”

The state’s governor has called for a state of emergency for the area – and CalFire said “explosive fire behavior” challenged firefighters. One more thing: *big* price for Ali’s historic belt

This is without a doubt one of boxing’s most memorable moments — when Muhammad Ali bring out the scary George Foreman to win the heavyweight title.

Now “Rumbling in the Forest” championship belt has been sold at a great price ($US6.18 million) $8.9 million.
