The Block stops Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull fleeing to Byron Bay after buying a $4 million backcountry home – as they brace for a backlash when their surprise airs on TV

Fashion influencer Elle Ferguson and her AFL star fiancé Joel Patfull have bought a small estate in the Byron Bay backcountry for $4 million.

The couple, who left the upcoming season of The Block just 48 hours after production, visited an address in Ewingsdale, just 5km from the city of Byron Bay.

They purchased the property, which consists of two small houses, in partnership with Elle’s sister, Lucie Ferguson, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Both houses are modern and minimalist in style. The main residence has three bedrooms and polished concrete floors.

They sat on a large plot of land with an entrance leading to the center.

Elle, 36, and Joel, 37, who live in Sydney’s Bondi, dramatically left The Block earlier this year.

Their exit from Channel Nine’s renovation show will be the main storyline in the first few episodes of the new season, which will air in the coming months.

They dropped the device in April – just 48 hours after filming – after Joel’s mother, Trish, broke her neck in a fall at her Adelaide home.

The pair initially tried to stay on the show but left after they ‘couldn’t get a definitive answer’ from producers as to whether Joel could ‘come and go’ from a construction site in Victoria to visit his ailing mother in South Australia.

Despite facing a legitimate family emergency, The Block host Scott Cam denounced their decision to quit the show, calling it ‘unAustralian’ and ‘poor’.

He told TV Tonight: ‘We had a 48 hour challenge to pick the houses you got and they disappeared after 48 hours. It was something that had never happened before.

‘Forty-five thousand people signed up to join The Block and win life-changing money. These guys are up and they can’t handle the speed after 48 hours.

‘Which to me is a bit unAustralian! Try! This is so bad.’

The eighteenth season of The Block will see Scott for the first time build his own home to inspire the team, and to create a space for them to come together.

‘When I arrived on set for the first time, I thought, “We’ve done a lot of big Blocks in the past, but nothing like this.” It’s huge,” he said in a statement.

‘We’re building our own little town, and sometimes it’s scary. But we have a great group of contestants who provide a red-hot gap.’

In addition to judges Shaynna Blaze, Neale Whitaker and Darren Palmer, foreman duo Keith Schleiger and Dan Reilly will also return.

At stake is $100,000 for the winner of The Block, plus any profits the couple’s house can make on auction day.

The Block: Tree Change premieres soon on Channel Nine and 9Now
