Bates declined to comment on the “secret” investor relations.

Bates told AFR when the couple was inducted into the rich list of “little side bets” on the Aurum+ and Aquamamma success he had with Gibson: “The first valuation to $1 billion pays off for the next vacation.”

Gibson later clarified that the losers had to buy a box of their favorite wine, La Tache Burgundy.
