Miriam Margolyes honest response after being asked how many lovers she has

Miriam Margolyes has revealed she doesn’t count her past lovers.

The Harry Potter star, 81, was asked how many women he ‘admires’ during a sordid interview on Australian breakfast radio on Tuesday.

The British actress, who is gay and has been in a relationship with historian Heather Sutherland since 1967, told The Kyle and Jackie O Show she didn’t know her ‘sex number’ but said she prioritized quality over quantity.

After learning that Margolyes was a lesbian and had been with the same woman for 54 years, host Kyle Sandilands asked her: ‘How many women have you loved?’

“I honestly don’t know who he is,” he replied.

‘I don’t count. When you’re in the middle of a sexual act, you don’t think how much I’ve had, how much I’ve done.’

Sandilands said he had stopped counting after hitting three, to which Margolyes responded: ‘Oh, you are someone who loves numbers.

‘I like quality over quantity.’

The Bafta winner then surprised Sandilands and her co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson by revealing oral sex was no longer in her repertoire.

He stated: ‘I haven’t fallen on anyone for a very long time because my knees are bad!’

Margolyes insisted she was ‘very happy’ with Sutherland, adding that the secret to their long relationship wasn’t living together.

“He lives in Amsterdam and I live in London. We’re together pretty much the whole year, as much as we can,” he said.

“She’s a professional woman, I’m a professional woman, and our careers are important to us. So we don’t want to be sidetracked by the relationship until we have a vacation.

‘We had a very good and loving life and I just adored him.’

It comes after Margolyes revealed last Monday that hanging out with a group of friendly Aussie bogans changed her opinion of them.

‘Bogan’ is Australian slang for a vulgar or uncultured person of low social status, similar to an American redneck or an English chav.

In an interview with New Idea, he said he recently attended a ‘bogan burnout’ car rally for his upcoming ABC documentary series.

Margolyes, best known for playing herbology professor Pomona Sprout in the Harry Potter film series, said she actually found bogans quite endearing.

‘If someone asked me if I wanted to be bored, I would say no. I would have thought that I couldn’t bear it. But I was wrong,” he told the magazine.

‘The community is very friendly and everyone is very kind, very accepting and very open.’

The Age of Innocence star spent a day with the bogan community for her ABC show Miriam Margolyes: Australia Unmasked.

The series will see him go on a journey to discover what the concept of ‘fair go’ means in modern Australian society.

The veteran actor previously made headlines for his controversial comments.

She publicly defended Harry Potter writer JK Rowling in April over the ‘misplaced’ criticism she faced for her views on the trans debate.

The Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts author has repeatedly faced accusations of transphobia for his defense of women’s rights.

Margolyes told the Radio Times: ‘There is no one answer to all these trans questions. We all know people who are a little effeminate or a little jerk or whatever.’

And in 2020 he came under fire for describing the land of Down Under as ‘brutal’ and ‘greedy’ ahead of the release of his documentary series Almost Australian.
