Hollywood star Margot Robbie will appear in the historical final episode of the soap opera.

The 32-year-old, who played Donna Freedman from 2008 to 2011, filmed a Zoom appearance shortly after the show finished shooting on June 10.

Fellow Aussies Delta Goodrem, Jesse Spencer, Holly Valance, Carla Bonner, Natalie Imbruglia and Kym Valentine, who all kicked off the show, will all return to the finals.

“Everyone who worked on the soap opera was determined that Neighbors would end very high and when they contacted Margot, she immediately said ‘yes’,” a source told The Sun.

“There’s no way he won’t be a part of this historic big final because he’s always spoken so lovingly about his time on soap operas and how it helped launch his film career.”

‘Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to go to Australia to shoot but shot a special clip to be shown in the big final.’

Margot instead sent 37 bottles of champagne to the set – one for each year the show aired on television.

The show’s executive producer Jason Herbison announced Robbie had sent an expensive bubble gift.

Robbie rose to prominence on Australian soap operas playing aspiring fashion designer Donna Freedman, before swapping Melbourne for Hollywood.

She has previously praised the show and said it was a ‘brilliant training’ for her Hollywood career and admitted that she would never be able to learn lines at the pace she used to during her soap days.

But she couldn’t believe how quickly she finished the script while she was in the drama series.

He said: ‘I always say after leaving the soap, everything will be easy after that.’

‘It was a brilliant training ground. I used to sit with 60 pages on my lap in the morning and just fly past them, reading them once. Understand. I don’t think I can do that now.’

The star of The Birds of Prey is also grateful to be able to work on soap operas because that time made him more ‘aware’ of other departments when he was in movies or TV.

He said: ‘I think the greatest thing about working on soap and working with multi-camera scenarios is being so aware of every other department, and working in a bigger machine.’

The finals will air in Australia and the UK on Friday.
