MAFS fans angry after show canceled in US: 'WTF'

The Australian MAFS star has fans all over the world, which is why American viewers were taken aback when cable channel Lifetime decided to cancel the show despite 300,000 viewers watching each week.

Lifetime bought the rights to the Channel Nine show in 2020 and also aired the US version of the show.

However, when eager viewers went to watch an episode last month, they found that the show was no longer airing during its usual time slot and had been moved to the network’s streaming app.

No explanation was given for the change, leaving fans furious that they had to go elsewhere for the show, despite already paying for the channel.

Many fans have accused Lifetime of trying to force viewers into their app with some saying they only have channels to watch MAFS and will be leaving the network.

“Your app is terrible,” wrote one angry viewer. “Too many commercials. I absolutely hate it. I won’t be watching #MAFSAustralia next season, because I don’t want to get hooked on a show only to have to watch the second half of the season on the Lifetime App.”

“So *** that I can’t watch on Lifetime anymore. Done!” other tweets.

“No one asked for this,” said a third.

“Not-scary-believeable!!!” wrote another angry viewer. “I really can’t believe that Lifetime has taken MAFS Australia off their regular cable TV channel in the middle of a pesky season!! I absolutely hate this streaming bullshit…give me a regular TV for God’s sake!!”

“So crazy!!! I hate all these apps, I just want to watch tv!!!” others agree.

“What’s with taking the best shows off of TV?” one user added.

“Whoever is in charge of this decision should pull their head from the bottom end. BRING IT BACK,” growled another.

While 300,000 viewers per episode may not be much compared to Australian and UK viewers, it’s almost unheard of for a show made outside of the US to do so well.

When the show first aired in the US, viewers were divided with some denouncing the lack of diversity.

“No POC [people of colour]. I won’t be watching,” wrote one viewer.

“Are there no Spaniards, Blacks or Asians in Australia?” another asked. “Every season they all look the same.”

“I was thinking the same thing… They’re all white with perfect bodies and lip fillers. There’s no difference whatsoever,” a third agreed.

While some suggest that it is simply ‘demography’ in Australia, others argue that manufacturers should do more.

Some viewers even jokingly questioned whether any Australian had “real lips”.

Other viewers complained about the background music, saying they couldn’t hear what was really going on, with one user joking, “What’s with the melodramatic songs? It’s a wedding, not war.”

Others said they couldn’t understand the Australian accent, “I can’t follow what they say with that accent.”

While many criticized the show, others shared their love for it, with one user writing, “Love the show! The process [is] much better than the US version.”

“Much better than the US one. Obviously the script but the drama makes it worth watching. The US one pretends to be ‘real’. Very boring,” said another.

“Can’t wait. This is my favorite show. The Australian version so far, 150 per cent better than the US version,” wrote a third.
