Former foreign secretary Julie Bishop was ‘blind’ by developer lover David Panton’s shock decision to postpone their eight-year relationship.
Despite the challenges of living on opposite sides of the country, Bishop has been working hard to keep the fire burning with Panton during Covid, said the source close to the politician-turned-chancellor of ANU.
Daily Mail Australia understands she has found more ways to be in Sydney with Panton and is excited to travel to London with her at the end of June, where they attend a royal dinner with Prince Charles.
But just a week later Panton publicly announced that the couple would be separating and wished Bishop ‘the best in his continuing stellar career’ in a statement to a newspaper.
Bishop appeared for the first time since the breakup smiling happily for photos at the Perth mining conference on July 11, though insiders say the 65-year-old was injured after the altercation and was shocked by the way Panton pulled the mine. pin so suddenly.

The Sydney-based developer, who also owns a home in Melbourne close to ex-wife Karen and their three children, confirmed the split on 6 July telling the Sydney Morning Herald: ‘I will focus on living in Manly and Melbourne for the foreseeable future.’
Panton has kept a low profile since returning to the single life and has managed to stay hidden from public view.
Sources say he even missed his usual morning workout.
It is understood he remained in Manly but is believed to have rented out his beachfront apartment in April and moved in nearby.
First introduced in 2014, the Australian political ‘glamorous couple’ made hundreds of red carpet and A-list social event appearances during their transcontinental romance including the unlikely invitation to Karl Stefanovic’s four-day wedding in 2019.
And despite generating some early public cynicism in the early days, the relationship rolled down the red carpet and corporate marquee for eight years.

She also seems unable to shake off her unfriendly nickname ‘Julie’s handbag’ – a casual reference she makes because she secretly accompanies Bishop to countless social events.
Based in Perth, Bishop – who recently collaborated with skincare Estee Lauder – was open about the challenges of a long distance relationship and said the couple relied heavily on FaceTime to get through the Covid pandemic.
“Not great but that’s all you can do because he can’t get in here (WA) and I can’t go there without having to get an exception,” he said in 2020.
“It’s been very difficult, but I know a lot of families have been separated in this way. It’s been very challenging.’
