During an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star John Krasinski discusses possible return as Reed Richards at Marvel Studios Fantastic Four.

While chatting with Fallon about the Marvel Studios announcement at San Diego Comic-Con 2020, Krasinski admitted he couldn’t say anything about the upcoming one. Fantastic Four film that started Phase 6. Although he joked with Fallon about being desperate to learn any information about the film, he said he wouldn’t know anything until “just before (they) were about to shoot:”

Fallon: Comic-Con, they just announced all these new movies, and they announced that there will be a new Fantastic Four movie.

Krasinski: Yes.

Fallon: You’re not allowed to say anything.

Krasinski: No.

Fallon: I’m not allowed to actually ask you.

Krasinski: That’s right.

Fallon: But… you think? You think?

Krasinski: What do you think?

Fallon: What do you think? Can someone think?

Krasinski: Seriously, what did you hear? I need to know.

Fallon: They didn’t tell you anything?

Krasinski: They didn’t tell you anything.

Fallon: Not until just before you’re about to shoot.

Krasinski: That’s right.

Fallon also raised rumors about Krasinski’s wife, Emily Blunt, playing the MCU’s Sue Storm. As Krasinski was about to reveal something about the film, he pretended to be shot by an arrow and dying as the audience burst into laughter:

Fallon: And there are also rumors that your wife, Emily Blunt, will be playing Sue Storm.

Krasinski: Oh!

Fallon: What do you think? According to you?!

Krasinski: Jimmy, I’ll tell you on your show, this is… (fake death)

Fallon: Oh my God! Someone killed him now, can we get him medic? That’s acting right there!

Krasinski: No, it’s actually a Marvel arrow. That’s a Marvel arrow, there’s a man walking around.

Krasinski Uses Classic MCU Dodge Techniques

Even for someone who only has about 10 minutes of screen time in the MCU, John Krasinski is well aware of what will happen to him if he becomes Tom Holland and breaks something.

Krasinski maintains his performance at Doctor Strange 2 a secret for more than two years after she reported her first meeting with Marvel Studios in mid-2020. It was kept so secret that the actress starring Elizabeth Olsen even passed a lie detector test when she said she had never met him, despite her Scarlet Witch turning Reed Richards- it makes fantastic spaghetti in that movie.

There are two clear choices as to why Krasinski answers that way: either he really doesn’t know if he’ll be back, or he might be ready to be in the film and can’t reveal anything about it. The best guess is the previous option, because Fantastic Four still doesn’t have a director before pre-production begins.

Most likely, filming for the film will take place sometime in 2023, which means that Marvel could be planning to make a casting decision in late 2022, potentially even announcing it at D23 in September. But if Krasinski was the one who confronted Mr. Fantastic in the MCU canon, he won’t be the one to reveal it before the time is right.

As for Emily Blunt, she’s openly admitted that she’s not a fan of superhero movies anymore, but nothing can be arranged until Marvel makes the final call.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness now streaming on Disney+ and available for purchase. Fantastic Four will hit theaters on November 8, 2024.
