Billionaire James Packer has backed up his recent claim of being the happiest in years with a warm public hug from ex-wife Erica, mother of three.

Having lost more than 30 kg and stopped taking the drugs that took so long to change his mood, Packer seems to have forgotten the series of problems behind him.

The 54-year-old, who recently sold his stake in Crown Resorts for $3.3 billion, said he was ready to embark on the ‘third act’ of his life and plans to return to his hometown of Sydney.

On Wednesday he showed his newfound satisfaction when he joined 44-year-old Erica for a holiday in Saint-Tropez.

The former couple, who have remained best friends after their split nearly a decade ago, were spotted docking their yacht at the world-famous beachside restaurant Club 55.

Packer said last month he was the ‘happiest’ in years, having lost 25kg in 75 days and ditching seven mood-altering drugs he was taking to help with his mental health.

The former executive chairman of Crown Resorts will return to Sydney next March with his ex-wife and three children.

“I’m roughly 130kg now and want to get back to 100kg by the end of 2022. I want to swim with my kids in Bondi when we’re all together in Sydney next year and be 100kg,” she told The Weekend Australian in June from her home in Mexico .

The businessman said he would quit the antidepressants and antipsychotic drugs he was prescribed in March, and now wants to ‘rehabilitate’ his reputation in Australia.

‘I was really looking forward to seeing Crown Sydney… it wasn’t appropriate for me to be in Australia for the last few years,’ he said.

In a more recent interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Packer said he has lost a total of 33kg and is growing by quitting alcohol, following a strict diet and exercise and limiting his daily calorie intake.

He told the newspaper last week that his life was ‘pretty good now’, adding: ‘My mental health is the best it’s ever been.’

Packer sold Crown to private investment firm Blackstone for $8.9 billion in a deal finalized in June, pocketing $3.3 billion in the process.

The sale marked the end of a major chapter in his sometimes controversial life amid investigations into the company and allegations of money laundering.

Despite the investigation, the billionaire credits his casinos in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney for changing cities ‘for the better’.

The father-of-three says he is now excited to start his ‘third act’ and plans to return to public life in Australia.
