Hunted down Australian viewers left angry over 'grossly unfair' twist

Hunted Australia viewers were outraged over the ‘unfair’ twist that saw half of the team caught on Sunday’s episode.

The Bondi couple, Lavinia and Nick, spent two weeks completely off-line avoiding friends and family, and not using the bank card given to them at the start of the competition.

But eventually the couple found themselves in need of money as they were getting ‘cold, tired and hungry’.

However, when they went to withdraw the cash they were entitled to spend, as per the rules of the game, the Hunters decided to throw a wrench.

They froze the couple’s ATM cards in an attempt to catch them, even though all the other teams had taken advantage of this emergency cash resource.

In CCTV footage, Lavinia made several attempts to withdraw cash without success.

The Hunters cheered back at headquarters as he struggled to figure out why one of their few lifelines had been taken before they could even use it.

Viewers flocked to Twitter to express their anger and frustration, calling Hunter’s decision ‘unfair’.

“I have to say that freezing bank accounts is very unfair,” one viewer tweeted.

‘Hey freeze their bank accounts…is that fair?’ others added.

Meanwhile, some onlookers accused the Hunters of ‘cheating’.

‘The Hunters who canceled the bank card were cheating… everyone who escaped could still use their card,’ one wrote.

‘It’s a card with $500, but you can’t withdraw it all at once, and we’ll cancel it whenever we want. This show is addictive but totally crap.’

‘It’s not fair for hunters to cancel or freeze bank cards. It’s a game and it feels like cheating… too much power and now manipulation!’ another fan’s tweet.

The shock comes after last week’s ‘un-Australian’ betrayal which saw aunt-and-niece duo Karen and Brittany caught after being tipped off by their bus driver.

Also on Sunday’s episode, friends Puneet and Kris stop by the remote rural property of one of their contacts, but flee after becoming suspicious of where the Hunters are on their tail.

Hunters manage to capture the pair, as well as Nick, leaving his partner Lavinia alone with no money.

Team Hunted is still tracking down the five contestants – Stathi and Matt, Jake and Rob, and Lavinia – who are still at large with only a few days left.
