Emmy nominees cry, nods to Kate Bush and nothing to reboot Sex and the City

The Emmy nominations have been announced for 2022 and it brought tears, unusual celebrations, and unexpected humiliation.

Here’s a look at the key takeaways from the nominations.

Sydney Sweeney’s tearful celebration

Nominated for Emmy twice Sydney Sweeney couldn’t hold back tears as she spoke to her mother after the nominations were announced today.

The 24-year-old earned two nominations, Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as the chaotic Cassie in Euphoriaand Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series for brooding teen Olivia in White Lotus.

“But most importantly mom, I love you, we did it through our ups and downs.”

Sweeney spoke to Variety today and opened up about his thoughts on the nominations.

“I cheered for Yellowstone. I felt Yellowstone was being harassed,” he said.

New tool for marking moments

Melanie Lynskey told Variety she felt “extra luxurious” after an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for yellow jacketand he headed out to treat himself.

When asked how he was celebrating the news, he said he was on his way to the shops.

Oscar veterans snubbed from Emmys

With Amanda Seyfred, Julia Garner and Lily James all for Best Leading Actress in a Limited Series Emmy, winner of this year’s Best Actress at the Oscars, Jessica Chastain, has been removed from the category.

Chastain won an Academy Award for his role in Tammy Faye’s eyes in March but skipped this Emmy for her role in Scenes from a Marriage.

But he’s not the only veteran Oscar winner to miss this year. Here’s who else didn’t see:

Academy Award Member Samuel L Jackson and Jared Leto was also snubbed, in the Best Actor in a Limited Series category.

And Just Like That… no Emmys

Sex and the city follow up And Like That failed to earn a nomination this year, even though the original show was an Emmy Awards favourite.

In its run, Sex and the City was nominated for more than 30 Emmys between 1999 and 2004.

Of those nominations, the show won four, including Outstanding Comedy Series in 2001, and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series in 2002.

Sarah Jessica Parker won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2004 and in the same year co-star Cynthia Nixon won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

A nod to Kate Bush

Stranger Things garnered 13 Emmy nominations this year, including one for *that* Kate Bush song Climbing That Hill.

episode Dear Billywhich featured the 1985 hit, was placed in the Best Music Watch category.

The song has made a resurgence since being featured in the series, and has even broken several records.

But despite the widespread nominations, none of the cast was nominated for an acting award, including Millie Bobby Brown and Sadie’s sink.

Bill Hader has four chances at the Emmys

That’s right, and three of them for one show.

It will be barry, program Bill Hader co-created in which he played hitman Barry Berkman.

He is up for Best Leading Actor in a Comedy Series, Best Writing for a Comedy Series, and Best Directing for a Comedy Series.

Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series was also up for grabs for Hader, who was nominated for Curb Your Enthusiasm.

But Sarah Goldbergwho played Sally Reed in Barry, didn’t get the nod.

Hader is a veteran of the Television Academy awards, with 24 nominations and three wins under his belt.

Squid Game makes history

Squid Game has been signed for a second season.

Squid Game has become the first non-English language series to be nominated for Best Drama Series.

The show has earned a total of 14 nominations, with stars Lee Jung-jae, Jung Ho-yeon, Park Hae-soo, and Oh Young-soo for awards.

Murray Bartlett was for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for his role as Armond in White Lotus.

He won two other awards this year for the role, including the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series and the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts International Award for Best Actor in a Series.

Sarah Snook also for the award, with a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Shiv in success.

There are also Toni Collettewho was nominated for Best Leading Actress in a Limited Series for Ladder.
