Disgraced businessman Geoffrey Edelsten dies poor but Brynne wants her share of the rest
The ex-wife of ex-millionaire Geoffrey Edelsten has made a legal bid for what’s left of his tattered estate.
Edelsten died poor, alone in his Melbourne apartment, in June last year despite his desperate attempts to portray an image of extreme wealth in his later years.
Brynne Gordon – Edelsten’s second wife – launched legal action with the Supreme Court of Victoria this week after being harassed by disgraced doctors in her final will.
Edelsten’s final will reveals the dire financial circumstances the famous woman was in before her death – far from the peak of her finances, when she owned the AFL’s Sydney Swans football club and traveled by helicopter.

Edelsten would continue to flaunt his wealth until he disappeared from the spotlight. His marriage to Brynne Edelsten (pictured) cost around $3 million

Edelsten is remembered as a good doctor and courteous concern for everyone he met. Except for those who pass through
Known in his last decade for his tacky marriage to former reality star Brynne and one-time best man Gabi Grecko, Edelsten left nothing behind of what was left of his estate.
In legal action taken against Michael John Webb and Lindsay Lawrence Hosking as executor of Edelsten’s will, Gordon claims he is entitled to a portion of what remains of Edelsten’s inheritance.
‘The division of the estate of the deceased made by his will in such a way as to not make adequate provision for the proper maintenance and support of the Plaintiffs,’ a notice to the court stated.
Gordon told the court he also deserved a handout.
‘The deceased made a special inheritance of $50,000 and three of the $25,000 to people who appeared to be friends or acquaintances, gifts through commissions in the order of $25,000 to each of the executors, an inheritance of $300,000 to business associates, two bequests of $100,000 to two charities and the remainder divided among four charities,’ Gordon complained.
Edelsten had made it clear even in his death that he hoped Gordon would receive nothing from his estate.
“I made no provisions for my ex-wife Brynne Gordon because we are divorced and I have made substantial and excessive provisions for her during my marriage to her,” his will said.

The 78-year-old was buried in a simple pine box inside a Jewish garden at Springvale Botanical Cemetery – southeast of Melbourne – in June last year.
Surrounded by a small group of friends and family, it was not the lavish gift one would expect from a man who had flaunted his wealth all his life.
Will documents filed with the Supreme Court of Victoria showed that Edelsten’s millions had disappeared at the time of his lonely death.
Despite dying inside a skyscraper apartment above St Kilda Road – a stone’s throw from Melbourne’s CBD – Edelsten doesn’t actually have a property brick to its name.
Documents filed with the Supreme Court show that although Edelsten died with more than $1 million in personal assets, $998,614 of it was registered as a personal loan to Barclays Consulting Group.
The money was likely ‘loaned’ when Edelsten’s creditors spun in 2015 when he was finally declared bankrupt.
Edelsten has settled his bankruptcy case after major creditors agreed to take a few pennies to write off more than $20 million of outstanding debt.
Even then Edelsten rubbed their faces in it by presenting his then partner Gabi Grecko with a $45,000 engagement ring just months later.
Many of its creditors reluctantly agreed to accept cash sums of more than $1 million to settle the matter.
After his death, the man who had landed at Sydney Cricket Ground by helicopter had only $60,000 in the bank and $25,000 worth of personal belongings.

What was left of his money was to repay the rest of his creditors, with documents stating Edelsten still owed $39,731 when he died.
About $18,000 of that amount is due for unpaid rent.
In his death, Edesten promised to leave $300,000 to his good spouse and 10 percent of his estate – limited to $100,000 – to his former school, Melbourne’s Mount Scopus Memorial College.
He promised the same proportions as Carlton Football Club – his undying love of the sport despite previously owning the Swans.
Edelsten also plans to leave a little over $50,000 to his only son Matthew Beard.
In writing down his supposed generosity to his son in 2017, Edelsten stated that he had ‘limiting benefits ‘to his son because’lifetime … substantial financial support’ that has been given to him.
Edelsten had not seen his son in person since he was a child.
“I made almost all of these payments when I myself was in financial trouble,” Edelsten said in his will.
Edelsten continued to live a life of luxury until his last breath despite losing much of his fortune pursuing young women and publicity for decades.
In 2014, after a fight with Brynne, Edelsten is still believed to be spending up to $48,000 a month on women, flights and whatever tickles his fancy.

Edelsten is no stranger to courts. While he strives to reinvent himself as a good man in his later years, he remains a ruthless bully
