Chris Hemsworth Breaks The Silence on Princess Role in Thor: Love and Thunder

Chris Hemsworth and the team at Marvel Studios are now officially into opening weekend for Thor: Love and Thunder, Hemsworth’s fourth time leading the way in a God of Thunder solo film. As well as being a wild rollercoaster ride from director Taika Waititi, this new solo adventure has a clear focus on the ideas of love and family from start to finish.

Warning – the rest of this article contains spoilers for Thor: Love and Thunder.

The core plot of the film centers around Thor and his team rescuing the children of Asgard from Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher, who uses them as part of a ploy to bring his own daughter back to life. Serving as support for prominent heroes like Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster and Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, these kids are not only an important part of the story, but they’re also played by actors who are quite close to the stars.

Bale revealed that his two children both played a role in the fourth Thor films, as Natalie Portman and children director Taika Waititi did as Asgardians took center stage. This is also the case for Hemsworth, who recently shared his first public quote about his daughter’s previous hidden role in the latest MCU epic.

While also mentioning his twin sons who play a role in the film, Hemsworth admits that his kids wanted to be a part of the film, given how Taika Waititi, Christian Bale and Natalie Portman brought their kids too. While she doesn’t encourage her children to become child actors after this film, she loves the opportunity to work with them under the Marvel umbrella:

“It’s so cool. They really want to be in it, you know? And Taika has her kids there, Bale has, Natalie has kids too. That’s my daughter too, she plays the character Love. And you know, it feels like an experience. a fun family and only once. I don’t want them to be stars and child actors now. It was just a special experience we all had and they loved it, They had a great time.”

Waititi and the cast expanded on this moment in a roundtable chat with Entertainment Weekly.

Bale also shared some of his experiences working with Hemsworth’s daughter, India, whose relationship with her father shone when they filmed their material together. Joking about him being nervous about her because of his performance as Gorr, he credits Hemsworth for being a good father and helping him through the experience:

“However, one of the other unforgettable parts for me was working with India because he was so outstanding in it. But it’s also really funny seeing your relationship and he’s got to be like ‘Who’s that weird bald guy who just got covered in scars and is crying over him?’ And he and you are like, you know, gently, you’re a good dad, gently training him through it like ‘No, stay there, I know he’s kind of disgusting, just leave him there with that.’ That’s good.”

Hemsworth added at the moment, remembering how India used to be “should be kissing” [Bale] Above head” and exclaim about how “sticky” before:

“He was supposed to kiss you on the top of the head and he was like ‘Everything’s sticky,’ so he did this. I was like ‘India, you didn’t really kiss his head.'”

Bale also looks back on one of the film’s greatest scenes, where Gorr binds Thor, Jane, and Valkyrie and is gagged in the Shadow Realm. After joking about feelings “like a mad nun” he shared his hope that this moment took nothing away from the overall outcome Thor 4:

“I think it’s been three days y’all have been silenced, and I thought the actual writing was like that (small), and then I had to do that (big), so I just kept walking and you were yelling at me and I came up with stuff and acting. I feel like a crazy nun or something. All I can see are your eyes, and I just say ‘Oh my God,’ do they look at me and say ‘Oh shit’ *, this is the worst thing ever!’ Because no one can respond to me. And then I also noticed that nothing ends in the movie, so I thought it must be the answer, it was the worst thing! But it was a fun little ordeal, I’ve seen what works.”

Hemsworth expressed his joy at working with so many familiar faces again, as well as Christian Bale, noting how much fun he had filming the Oscar-winning fight scenes. He even remembers feeling a little nervous that those times might be “too much in Disney movies” and a little too scary for some kids, including his own:

Yes, I really enjoyed working with Natalie again, Tessa, and then Christian, who I never worked with. I mean it’s all fun, but the fight scenes are always so much fun, and especially the first day Christian talks about it. We don’t know what he’s going to do; we had a rough idea and then he came in and it was really scary and scary and I thought ‘This is going to be too much in a Disney movie,’ but it worked. Too scary, yeah like, I’m afraid my kids will run out of theater.

It’s Time for India Hemsworth to Shine With Marvel

Chris Hemsworth often brings his family to help with several minor roles in his Marvel films, including his wife Elsa Pataky appearing in three of the four Thor solo films to date. Now, with his kids slightly older, it’s great to see him being such a supportive father and allowing them the chance to shine a few minutes in the latest MCU blockbuster.

Princess Hemsworth landed a very fun role to play as the daughter of Gorr the God Butcher, who was finally under Thor’s care by the time the credits started rolling.

Seeing the chemistry between Chris and India hits fans’ hearts, especially among so many other emotional moments throughout the plot. It’s clear that the entire Hemsworth family really enjoyed this opportunity, and while Love’s role in the MCU’s future is a mystery, India made the most of her time working with her father.

Thor: Love and Thunder now playing in theaters around the world.
