  • A bride has surprised thousands by baking her wedding cake before the big day
  • Laura uses Betty Crocker’s rainbow white cake mix to make a two-tiered dessert
  • The cake probably only costs $30 to bake and is covered with sprinkles
  • While the bride was delighted with the ‘cute’ cake, the others were not impressed
  • It was described as a ‘children’s birthday cake’ or a ‘volcano’

A bride has been teased by strangers online after choosing to bake her own wedding cake the night before the big day.

Since weddings can be very expensive, the bride will save hundreds of dollars on baking the dessert herself – but many describe the look as a ‘children’s birthday cake’ or ‘volcano’ rather than a beautiful wedding cake.

Laura, who is believed to be from the US, posted the video on TikTok which has been viewed 3.7 million times.

“Not sure if making my wedding cake in the middle of the night before my wedding was the best idea,” she wrote in the video caption.

In Australia, wedding cakes can cost anywhere from $300 to $1200 depending on the number of tiers and details – but Laura’s version will likely cost less than $30.

Laura said: ‘I’m getting married in two days and today I’m baking our wedding cake.’

This two-tier cake is made using Betty Crocker’s white rainbow cake mix (costs AUD $4 per box) and the night before it is covered in rainbow sprinkles.

She baked three eight-inch cakes and three 10-inch cakes which were used to make tiers of different sizes.

‘It’s midnight, the night before our wedding and I’m baking a cake. I’ve never made ice cake in my life but I thought it looked really cute,’ she said.

To add a finishing touch, Laura placed a large topper on the cake that spelled the couple’s names.

While Laura was delighted with the ‘cute’ finish, others couldn’t help but criticize the homemade dessert.

‘Is this a joke? Because it seems more like a birthday,’ wrote one person.

‘I can hear your guests judging,’ another added, a third said: ‘No…no.’

“It wasn’t me who thought you were a professional baker and this would be great,” another admitted.

But some credited Laura for trying it and saving money baking her own.

‘I think this is the funniest idea!!! Expensive pastries are overrated,” one woman commented.

‘Thank goodness someone had common sense and didn’t pay $500 for a wedding cake. You’re beautiful, let it not shine!’ write another.

The third said: ‘People are very bad. I don’t remember anyone’s cake at a wedding I’ve been to. If you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters. It’s your day!’

In another video, Laura responds to haters with a photo of herself on her wedding day smiling and cutting the cake.
