Sydney’s Bodhi Restaurant is one of the city’s most beloved restaurants and will have its last service on Saturday, 7 August, so diners need to be quick if they want to order their last meal under the famous fairy tree.

The family-run Bodhi has been loved by visitors from across the country for its plant-based southern Chinese food and has been visited by big names over the years including Keanu Reeves, Tobey Maguire and Hugo Weaving.

Heaven Leigh’s owner took to social media to let many Bodhi fans know they only have two weeks to visit before the doors close.

‘We’ve made the decision to close while business is still going strong so we can end on a high. We are so proud to have been a part of the vegan community for many years and grateful to have been supported by old and new customers,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

‘It is an honor and privilege to be able to serve the community by sharing our passion for vegan food. We maintain our belief that plant-based foods are good for your health, your soul, your conscience, and the world around us.’

Heaven Leigh said this was not the last Sydneysider to see Bodhi last and encouraged followers to stay abreast of news, updates, lifestyle content and vegan recipes on social media.

The post drew outpouring and support from hundreds of foodies who were saddened to see Bodhi gone.

‘Very sad!!! I always try to go to Bodhi whenever we travel to Sydney and your place is the only option for vegan yum cha I know of!’ one word.

‘My first date with my husband was in Bodhi (and had our engagement party here). very saddened by this news,’ wrote another.

Heaven Leigh’s mother, Lee-Leng Whong opened a vegan restaurant in Chinatown in 1988 long before plant-based foods were popular.

In 1998, Bodhi moved to Hay Street where he launched vegan yum cha which quickly became a fan favorite among visitors.

Two years later Bodhi set up at its current location in Cook and Phillip Park where guests can enjoy the lush surroundings and bamboo tree walls as they dine on a menu that has delighted vegans and non-vegans alike ever since.
