Australian Gogglebox star Di Kershaw dies after a brief illness

Australian Gogglebox star Di Kershaw has died at the age of 76 after a brief illness.

Di, a former model-turned-Indigenous art dealer, has been on the Channel 10-Foxtel show with her husband Mick since its first season in 2015.

He leaves behind Mick, their adult children Victoria and Alex, and young grandson Harvey.

Doctors reportedly found a tumor in his throat several months ago and it turned out to be inoperable.

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford broke the news at 3AW on Monday.

“He’s been seriously ill for a few months now, so my condolences to Mick and the rest of the family,” Ford said.

‘He is a great talent. Producers get gold when they find it.’

The Kershaws, from Sydney’s North Shore, have been married for more than 50 years. They first met in a pub when Di was 17 and Mick was 20.

‘It’s not like a reality show,’ he once said of their courtship.

‘It’s not something as formal as a fancy dinner and cocktails at a bar. It was hanging out as a group, drinking rum and Cokes – very unsophisticated.’

Mick proposed to her after dating for five years.

Di is known for his dry sense of humor on Gogglebox, and often comes out with hurtful taunts when reacting to dating shows.

She famously didn’t think much of her fellow sofa critic Angie Kent who started her reality TV career.

‘He was in Gogglebox, then he went to the woods, then he became Single, and now he’s a dancing star… I’m sorry. She’s not a dancer, that’s for sure,’ he once said.

A friend of Kershaw’s said Di chose not to tell anyone about his declining health.

‘He wasn’t feeling well a few months ago and [Mick] take her to their doctor. After many tests and specialists, they found a tumor in his throat which was inoperable,’ they said.

“That’s when he decided not to tell anyone and just spend some quality time with their family.”

She convinced her husband to give up his lofty career as an advertising executive to follow their passion for the arts.

They have run an Aboriginal art gallery and dealership for more than three decades.

After a long career in the industry, Di was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2020 for his services to the visual arts.

Di and Mick appear in every season of Gogglebox, but disappear briefly during the eleventh season in 2020 when they choose to self-isolate at their Sydney home without a camera crew present.

Kershaw’s son Alex married in 2018. Their daughter, Victoria, is also married to one son named Harvey, whom Di adores.
