ARK: Survival Evolved: Woolly Rhino - How to Tame, Feed and Breed!

German English

The Wool Rhinoceros is a large, fur-covered rhino that you usually find in the snow biome in ARK: Survival Evolved.

Find out everything you need to know about the woolly rhino in our Hairy Rhino guide. But also how to catch it, tame it, feed it and also breed its offspring.

This is the Furry Rhino in ARK: Survival Evolved

Appearance: The Wool Rhinoceros was a rhinoceros that was similar in size to Stegosaurus and was covered in fur, which it needed because it lived only in the snow biome.

Wild: Like most herbivores, the Wool Rhino is peaceful until attacked. After that, all nearby Woolly Rhinos will attack you.

Domesticated: Tamed, you can breed them for their precious horns, but also use them as beasts of burden.

How to tame the Woolly Rhino in ARK

How to hunt the Furry Rhino: You can use the following options to hunt or electrocute the Feathered Rhinoceros:

Risky: You can try hitting the Furry Rhino with a tranquilizer dart without pinning it first. However, since it can run quite fast and will attack you right after your first hit, this is not a good idea. Unless you’re on a boulder, platform, or cliff that can’t reach you or damage you.

Currently: It’s easier to hold the Woolen Rhino in place with a chain ball or bear trap and only then with a tranquilizing arrow. To lure him into a bear trap, you must hit him and then lure him into a bear trap. Or you set lots of bear traps around you and then attack them. In order to attack you, it must enter one of the bear traps set up around you.

Safe: Of course you can also make traps out of three dinosaurs, which you make in a U shape with a small gap in between and then use the targets. Leave the gates you pass open. In the middle you make a bear trap.

Now you are fishing in Rhinoceros Wool. For that you just shoot it. It is important here that you have a fast mount or a high movement speed so that you can escape too. If it’s following you, run through the open side of your construction – but don’t get into the bear trap yourself. Once the Furry Rhino is caught in a bear trap, cover the exposed side with the third Dinotor and shoot it with a tranquilizing arrow until it becomes unconscious. Depending on the Woolly Rhino’s level, this can be time and resource consuming.

How to tame it: Once unconscious, put a berry or kibble in his inventory and feed him. To keep the Feathered Rhino and stun, it is best to use anesthetic or Narcoberry.

How to breed Wool Rhinos in ARK

This is how you prepare for breeding: If you have both male and female specimens, you build a fairly large enclosure. Put both dinosaurs in the pen and set them to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to rendering.

The breeding interval of the woolly rhino is 18 to 48 hours.

ARK Baby Woolly Rhino

How to raise them: After successful mating, if you play on the default settings, the female Wool Rhinoceros will be pregnant for about 4 hours. After 4 hours, you can welcome the little Baby Fluffy Rhino into the world. As a baby, it takes another 6 hours of your attention, during which you have to keep putting food in his inventory. Watch for embossing intervals every 8 hours to tickle the baby’s greatest potential.

After attaining juvenile status, it can feed itself. The entire ripening time lasts about 2 days and 10 hours.
