ARK: Survival Evolved: Argentavis - How to Tame, Feed and Breed!

German English

Argentavis in ARK: Survival Evolved is a giant eagle whose saddle has a movable workbench. Wild, however, he is aggressive and persistent, he has decided the prey. Due to its size, the Argentavis is the largest bird on the island.

Find out everything you need to know about the giant eagle in our guide to Argentavis. But also how to catch it, tame it, feed it and also breed its offspring.

This is Argentavis in ARK: Survival Evolved

Appearance: Ranging in size from about 15 (4.57 m) to 20 feet (about 6 m), the Argentavis is the largest bird on the island. It has a sharp beak typical of birds of prey, as well as sharp claws on its feet. Equipped with this, he could already injure his prey while grabbing it and end up just dismembering it.

Wild: Argentavis can be found both in the air and on the ground, most often seen fighting off its prey on the ground while flying through the air. He’ll only attack you if you’re under him, in good old raptor style. If you get too close to him, provoke him, or he chooses you as his prey, he will chase you from a distance, which makes it difficult to escape from him.

Because it shares its habitat with many predators, including larger ones, it is content with carrion as food or leaving some of its prey behind.

Domesticated: Tamed, with the Argentavis Saddle you always have a mobile workbench, where stone, crystal and metal only weigh half of their weight in your inventory. This makes it perfect for transportation as you grow these materials. But Argentavis also cuts a fine figure as a regular mount.

How to tame Argentavis in ARK

How to hunt Argentavis: You can tame Argentavis with or without traps, depending on how easy or hard you want to make it.

No traps: Take your arrows or bows and equip them with tranquilizing arrows. Now shoot Argentavis, preferably when it just lands on the ground. Once you hit him, he will attack you and you can keep shooting him until he faints. However, you will receive damage and your mount, if you have one, will intervene, which can quickly lead to Argentavis being finished off.

To prevent this, you can “park” your mount a little further. Also, don’t run up to him during Argentavi’s attack.

With traps: Of course it’s easier, but it’s also more complicated with traps. You build a trap, much like the Snow Owl, by placing two stone gates (large enough for Argentavis) facing each other a good distance apart and then connecting them to the foundation of a stone fence. On top of your foundation then place the stone door frame as high as the stone gate. Finally, all you have to do is cover everything with a stone ceiling.

Leave one gate open and the other closed. Provoke Argentavis by hitting him when he is following you or wants to attack you, run through the open gate into a trap and close the open gate as soon as he enters.

You can now easily shoot him unconscious through the stone door frame.

How to tame it: Once he’s unconscious, put some meat or kibble in his inventory and feed him. To keep Argentavis low and its stun value up, it is best to use anesthetics or Narcoberry.

How to breed Argentavis in ARK

This is how you prepare to breed: If you have both male and female specimens, it is best to build a cage that is large enough. Put both dinosaurs in the pen and set them to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to rendering.

The breeding interval for Argentavis is 18 to 48 hours.

How to Hatch Eggs: If you have obtained a fertilized Argentavis Egg from a successful marriage, hatching begins. For this, the temperature of the egg environment should be between 12 °C and 13.5 °C and in the egg incubator at 13 °C. By default, the little Argentavis babies hatch after about 3 hours. After that, it takes about 5.5 hours of your attention, during which you continue to put food in its inventory.

After attaining juvenile status, it can feed itself. The entire ripening time takes about 2 days and 6.5 hours.
