Ex Australian survivor The contestant’s leisurely ride along the beach at Beachport in South Australia soon turns into something of a scene from the hit reality TV show when a terrifying change of tide forces him to abandon his car.

With his car stuck, the AFL Hall of Famer pulled out his phone to record what might have been a funny state of affairs at first, but things soon took a very serious turn when the tide almost completely drowned the 4WD.

He uploaded the moment to Instagram.

“Okay, we’re stuck here,” he says in the video, as nearly half of his car is submerged in water.

Suddenly, waves hit him and his car.

“Whoa, damn it!” he is screaming. “It’s a bit worrying here.”

The two-time premiership player then quickly realized that hanging physically on his car was as pointless as dangerous, and he stepped back into the video from afar.

Soon after, video shows the 4WD actually getting stuck in the wet sand as another wave slides into it, threatening to drag the vehicle all the way down.

A front-end loader eventually dragged the two vehicles to safety with cables, but not without significant damage.

No one was hurt, but the car is being repaired after being submerged.

Wanganeen thanked the many people who came to their aid.

“Quite an interesting morning,” he wrote in a post on Instagram.

“Thanks to the amazing people at Beachport who helped us out of this mess.”

Ben Rutten praises cult hero Draper

On foot, Wanganeen’s former team Essendon continued their end-of-season form to win a third straight game against the Gold Coast Suns on Sunday night.

Bomber coach Ben Rutten said he would encourage Sam Draper’s natural talent and passion after cult figure Essendon produced the AFL’s best goal challenger in the disappointment.

Ruckman Draper snatched the ball from a central bounce, shared a give and go with his team-mates and ignored two opponents as he raced towards goal during the final quarter.

His stunning finish on the outside of his right boot saw the hosts crash as the culmination of the Bombers’ 48-point win at Marvel Stadium.

“It was fantastic,” said Essendon coach Rutten.

“I absolutely don’t want to discourage him from playing with real talent and passion.

“That’s what he brings and his team-mates give him, the crowd feeds him and it’s a real highlight of his game.

“He can do things that a lot of men can’t.”

Signed through the 2017 rookie draft, Draper has played 38 senior games over the past three seasons and is still “immature” in a football sense, according to his coach, who sees a bright future for the 23-year-old.

“He’s still in an upward curve in terms of his understanding of the game and his journey as a footballer,” said Rutten.

“But he has the athleticism and passion he plays that we love about him.

“He’s a very popular guy in the dressing room and the guys are really draining his energy out there.”

Essendon were struggling under intense scrutiny midway through the year when the football department review was announced, with the final out of question and the heat of Rutten’s tenure.

But four wins in their last five games – all against teams in the final mix – have eased the pressure a bit as Rutten continues to pursue her long-term success.

“The best thing we can do is continue to do what we’re doing here as a full-fledged foot club,” said Rutten.

“The players and coaches are a very committed group and we understand that we are on our way.

“We are really clear about where we want to go and we are clear where we are.

“We just need to keep real consistency day by day, week by week with our preparations – that’s the most important thing for us at the moment.”

Essendon faced traditional rivals Collingwood in round 19, looking to build on their momentum and end the Magpies’ eight-game winning streak.
