Jodie Haydon breaks her silence about traveling with Anthony Albanese - when the hilarious work act hits

Jodie Haydon has spoken publicly for the first time about the time she fell in love with Australia’s most powerful man, when she accepted her new role as the country’s unofficial ‘First Lady’.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s partner was constantly by his side throughout the election campaign and accompanied him on his recent overseas trip to Europe, where Haydon left a lasting impression on French President Emmanuel Macron.

Haydon has told friends he enjoyed his whirlwind ride – making sure the plane meals on the RAAF jets are ‘good’ – and left his guildmates posters of an Albanese young man to watch over them while he’s gone.

“I had to make sure you didn’t miss me too much so I brought a friend over for a chat,” he said, according to a post obtained exclusively by Daily Mail Australia on Friday.

Australians will see another side of the Prime Minister when the extensive television interview airs on Sunday evening. It features ‘Albo’ showing off the inside of his new home, The Lodge in Canberra, and behind the scenes of his trip to Europe, including his secret visit to war-torn Ukraine.

Ms Haydon will appear in her first televised interview with political reporter Mark Riley where she candidly reveals her two-year relationship with the Prime Minister.

‘Actually, that’s when I fell in love,’ he laughs in the preview for Channel Seven’s Spotlight.

Albanese is the first unmarried prime minister to call The Lodge home since the departure of Julia Gillard in 2013.

He recently moved from his home in Marrickville in southwest Sydney and joined his beloved caboodle, Toto.

Ms Haydon is unlikely to move to Canberra, having recently taken up a job as a female officer with the Sydney-based NSW Public Service Association.

Haydon is expected to continue living in Sydney in the inner-west suburb of Stanmore.

Some light has recently been revealed on the PM’s lover’s political views.

Daily Mail Australia revealed a LinkedIn post in which Ms Haydon freely expressed her opinion on why Australia Day dates should be changed, raise salaries for teachers and support asylum seekers. He has deleted that profile.

Social media has provided little insight into Ms Haydon – with colleagues at work sharing an image of the ‘Young Albo’ poster she left in her office, prior to her absence – apparently keeping an eye on them.

‘I had to make sure you didn’t miss me too much so a friend showed up for you to chat with!’ he was joking.

Despite his growing profile, he has recently stated he wants to avoid political commentary as a partner to the Prime Minister.

“My job is to focus on my day job and let Anthony focus on his work,” he recently told News Corp.

Haydon started dating Albanese in 2020, not long after his 19-year-old wife, former state education minister Carmel Tebbutt left him.

Months later, the Opposition leader was speaking at a conference in Melbourne when he asked the crowd if any of his fellow South Sydney NRL fans were in attendance.

Financial worker Ms Haydon, who lives in her Grayndler constituency, shouted: ‘Up Rabbitohs’.

He then introduced himself and arranged to meet for a drink in their hometown.

‘We had what I thought would just be drinks at Young Henrys in Newtown, and we got along really well. That’s how it started,” she told Women’s Weekly earlier this year.

Blair Williams, a lecturer in Australian politics at Monash University believes the couple’s relationship is a refreshing reflection of 21st century Australia.

“It shows what modern relationships are like,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald last week.

‘People are getting divorced, people are starting new relationships and it’s nice to see it on display.’

The 7 Spotlight interview with the show Mr Albanese keeps himself at home at the Lodge as he shares the heartbreaking story of his birth, and the courage of his late mother Maryann, who raised him on her own in a housing commission house.

According to Blackbox TV, the program also shows Albanese playing tennis with his son Nathan and meeting with president Macron in Paris to repair fractured relations with Australia.

He was also filmed touring the war-torn Ukraine’s front lines earlier this week before rushing home for public reaction as Sydney’s latest flood crisis worsened.
